AAP to launch major agitation against property tax hike by East MCD

  • BJP effects major property tax hike through back door
  • Six fold hike in property tax in many areas
  • Commercial property owners worst hit

The Aam Aadmi Party condemns BJP for increasing property tax in East Delhi colonies through back door. The party has warned the BJP if the tax hike is not rolled back, it will launch a major agitation in the area against the BJP, which controls the East MCD.

Giving details of the hike, Aam Aadmi Party State Convenor Dilip Pandey said that the BJP has mismanaged the civic bodies in the city and its leaders are involved in large scale corruption. The three municipal bodies are facing bankruptcy under the BJP’s misrule. Now to increase revenues, the BJP has a found a new way. The ruling BJP has increased the property tax through back door. "The BJP did not mention this hike in East Delhi Municipal Corporation budget. Now it has changed categories of many colonies in the area. Some colonies, which were in the E category, have now been put under A category. Property tax in these colonies has been increased by six folds. It’s burdening the people of Delhi for your own mismanagement and corruption. Aam Aadmi Party will not allow this."

Terming it as loot, Dilip Pandey said that for commercial properties in the area property tax has been increased from 1.5 lakh rupees to 6 lakh rupees. The Aam Aadmi Party will launch a major agitation and will force the BJP to roll back its decision. The party will chalk out the strategy for the agitation and would hit the streets very soon, said Dilip Pandey, and added that people of Delhi are fed up with misrule and corruption in BJP ruled municipal bodies. This move of the BJP reminds of British rule, where rulers had no concern about the hardship faced by the common man. People of Delhi will not accept it and will teach the BJP a lesson," said Pandey.
